Cheltenham Teacher Banned for Falsifying Credentials

Nicholas Martin, the former head of sixth form at St Edward’s School in Cheltenham, has received a permanent teaching ban after admitting to falsifying both his age and his academic history.

Martin, 43, falsely claimed to possess a master’s degree from the University of Cambridge and to have served as a magistrate.

Suspicions emerged during his 2025 application for a deputy head position, where he gave a birth year that was five years younger than his real age.

A careful review exposed further deception, including a forged Cambridge diploma and fabricated professional claims.

The Teaching Regulation Agency deemed his conduct severe misconduct, resulting in a lifetime classroom ban, though he may appeal after two years.

This case highlights the essential role of honesty in education and the importance of regulatory oversight in maintaining trust in schools.

Cheltenham Community Rallies for Church Road Zebra Crossing

Residents along Church Road in Cheltenham have long raised alarms over pedestrian safety, especially during busy school hours.

With repeated near misses and no formal crossing in place, concerns have grown urgent.

A passionate school crossing campaign has now gathered momentum, led by Amalie, a Year Six pupil at Leckhampton Primary School.

Amalie’s petition for a zebra crossing highlights the daily risks students and families face.

Over 1,000 locals have added their names in support, as stories of vehicles mounting pavements multiply.

Backing from local councils has secured most of the £75,000 needed to install the crossing, but a £3,000 funding gap remains.

Ongoing efforts urge the community to contribute, reflecting a strong desire to act before tragedy strikes.

Residents remain hopeful the new crossing will soon protect everyone on Church Road.

Major Drug Bust in Cheltenham Leads to Multiple Arrests and Seizures

Gloucestershire Constabulary executed targeted raids across Cheltenham on Thursday, July 3, 2025, arresting three men and seizing large amounts of cocaine, cash, and alleged stolen property.

Officers focused on four addresses in St Paul's and Hatherley, recovering around £40,000 in cash and significant quantities of Class A drugs.

A man in his 30s was held for suspected drug supply after a cocaine discovery, while another man, also in his 30s, was detained for suspected money laundering.

A third suspect in his 40s now faces several charges, including handling stolen goods and weapons possession.

Richard Cooper, 39, of Waterloo Street, pleaded guilty at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court to possessing cocaine with intent to supply and criminal property. He awaits sentencing at Gloucester Crown Court on August 1.

These actions form part of an ongoing crackdown aiming to protect local communities from drug-related harm.

Gloucestershire Airport Sold to Horizon Aero Group for Over £25 Million

Gloucestershire Airport has been purchased by Horizon Aero Group, formed through a partnership between Vayu Aviation Services Ltd in the UK and Vensa Infrastructure Ltd from India, in a landmark deal topping £25 million.

The 375-acre airfield, situated between Gloucester and Cheltenham, previously belonged to both city councils but officially changed hands in June 2025.

This transition is expected to spark major upgrades, with Horizon Aero Group pledging to balance heritage with modernization and drive future growth.

The sale ends a period of financial strain, including a £7.5 million refurbishment loan in 2021, and will help clear airport debt while benefiting both councils.

Plans include expanding business parks and strengthening the airport’s economic contribution, which currently stands at over £50 million yearly for the local economy.

The community is optimistic as the airport returns to full operations and looks forward to a revitalized and resilient regional hub.
